With hundreds of performance venues and festivals held throughout the year, Chicago offers visitors a dizzying array of entertainment options. The city's yearly summer festivals will appeal to most musical tastes, with the festival season kicking off in June with the Chicago Blues Festival, which is quickly followed by the Gospel Festival, Chicago Country Festival and the Grant Park Music Festival, a yearly tradition of mainly classical music.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is another jewel in the city's entertainment crown with world-class singers and conductors executing magisterial performances in the historic old building. Meanwhile, the United Centre and other massive venues ensure the city has a year-round supply of superstar performers.

Chicago is also known for its excellent theater options, most notably the Steppenwolf Theater from which major talents like John Malkovich and Gary Sinise have emerged, while the Second City comedy club has produced some of comedy's great names such as Bill Murray and John Belushi. Dozens of other theaters including the Victory Gardens, Goodman, Court and the Shakespeare factory also stage notable productions year round.
