Edinburgh has an extremely rich theatrical tradition and visitors can watch productions at a number of excellent venues throughout the city. With its distinctive glass front, the Edinburgh Festival Theatre hosts opera, cabaret and drama and concerts, while work by emerging writers is performed at the Traverse Theatre. Other notable venues in Edinburgh include the Kings Theatre and the Royal Lyceum Theatre.

Concerts by top musicians are held at the Corn Exchange and the Queens Hall, while good live music, including rock, pop, blues, jazz and folk, can be heard at a number of pubs and nightclubs in Edinburgh, such as The Bongo Club and Henry's Jazz Cellar.

The greatest selection of theatre however, occurs during the Fringe Festival in August, attracting repertory players from across Europe with shows of every manner and taste. Advanced ticket booking is strongly advised.
