Liverpool has a thriving theatre scene and a number of theatres in the city stage regular productions of dramas, musicals, comedies, operas and more. Notable venues include the Empire, Playhouse, Royal Court and Unity theatres.
The Merseyside International Street Festival held each summer features street theatre and entertainers.

Good live music is easy to find in Liverpool, the city which gave the world the Beatles. The world famous Cavern Club, which relocated in the 1970s, features live bands, as do The Griffin and the Hanover Rock and Blues Hotel. The Liverpool Philharmonic Summer Pops and the Mathew Street Music Festival are also popular summer events featuring live music.

The International Street Festival which takes place through June blesses the city with loads of wonderful, free performances found all about the centre, and adds a charming atmosphere to the city.

During the summer the Albert Docks are host to numerous summer concerts and impromptu performances. In August Matthew Street is the venue for an annual street music festival.
