One of Madrid's top tourist drawcards is its impressive entertainment scene and the city boasts plenty of high-end cultural entertainment including theatre, ballet and opera. Madrid is home to one of Europe's most modern opera houses, the Teatro Real, and during the summer months it's possible to enjoy al fresco performances at a range of venues including La Corrala, Jardines de Sabatini and Retiro Park.

The summer months offer a range of theatrical performances held at outdoor venues and festivals during this time include the Veranos de la Villa festival. Alternative drama can be found at the Triángulo, while Spanish classics and 20th-century drama can be enjoyed at the magnificent Teatro Español.

Less formal entertainment focuses around the city's numerous bars and clubs, where it's possible to enjoy evenings that run on into the early hours. Calle Huertas has clubs and bars where you can enjoy live music including jazz and traditional Spanish melodies, while Masaña is more popular among the younger crowd and boasts some trendy bars and clubs where it's possible to dance the night away.
